Device Prep Technician (Zimbabwe)

About the Role

The Device Prep Technician is responsible for the preparation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware devices and related technology systems to ensure seamless operations within the fintech company. This role involves setting up, testing, and deploying devices such as computers, mobile devices, and other peripheral equipment for new and existing employees, ensuring that all devices meet the company's security and performance standards. The Device Prep Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the IT infrastructure by troubleshooting hardware issues, maintaining inventory, and assisting with technology upgrades and deployments. This position requires a strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to work efficiently to meet the dynamic needs of a fast-paced fintech environment.


General Pin Pad Preparation:

  • Receives custody of issued pin pads from Stores for preparation per Inventory Request.

  • Application Loading as per device model as prescribed by Product Engineer (LN) following Product Owner Approvals (SE).

  • Loads required Logos of Merchant, Bank and mandatory EFT Set of images per request.

  • Captures on Jira Pin Pad Assets against each Device Serial Number, application versions Loaded.

  • Applies IPOS Bubble Sticker.

  • Applies Label detailing Bank Logo and TID assigned - liaise with Stores Officer to ensure accuracy on preparation and device assignment.

  • Cleans device before packaging for dispatch.

  • Responsible for device preparation station equipment readiness and cleanliness.


Post Repairs Verification of Functionality:

  • Run the De-Tamper of pin pads following repairs.

  • Attractively staging of X990 POS devices following repairs - loading application files.

  • Recalling devices to Repair Centre for update and closure of RMA Job Card.


Staging of X990 POS Devices:

  • Receives custody of X990s from Stores for preparation per request from Customer or Sales Team.

  • Unboxes devices, scans serial numbers into the Staging Schedule, and records model details.

  • Applies required and purchased add-ons, such as FI Bubble Stickers, screen protectors, and silicone covers.

  • Load ROM and Application Files for Basic Staging requirement.

  • Extra service requests - downloading from Veristore Merchant or Agent POS Application:

    • This requires Veristore Terminal configuration by a Junior Engineer to be done to allow download.

    • This is not a common request as FI attend to this process in-house head of deployments.

  • Repack devices for Stores to arrange collection and delivery note


Supporting Tasks:

  • Assists Stores Officer with receipt of stock deliveries and RMA device deliveries verifications.

  • Assists in Repair Centre with cleaning of devices and basic checks during Prep downtime.


Time-Sheet Management:

  • Time tracking in Jira (Tempo) completed weekly, accurate project code allocation with a min average of 8 hours per workday.


Business Risk Management:

  • Compliance with company policies and procedures.

  • Complete all periodic mandatory policy and security training in accordance with EFT Corporation’s guidelines.

  • Risk mindset applied and business risks actively raised to direct manager.


Way of Work:

  • Use of proper punctuation, UK English grammar and spelling.

  • Ensure all documents, correspondence etc. are formatted correctly, are neat and accurate.

  • All activities are completed with due care and align with accuracy and quality standards.

  • Obtain necessary approvals for legal activities aligned with process.

  • Identify and / or confirm relevant timeframes / deadlines applicable to the task at hand.


Country of Employment: Zimbabwe.


Country where services will be rendered:

The nature of this role may require the individual to provide services across different entities within the EFT Corporation Group as and when required. This could involve temporary assignments, projects, or responsibilities that extend beyond the specific entity to which the individual is initially assigned. The willingness to adapt and contribute to the broader objectives of the group is essential for success in this role.

Requirements

What you need to succeed:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or other relevant IT certifications advantageous is advantageous.


  • Previous experience in the fintech industry or a high-security environment is advantageous.

  • 2-3 years of experience in IT support or a similar technical role.

  • Experience with device imaging, configuration, and deployment.

  • Hands-on experience with various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile OS (iOS and Android).

  • Strong understanding with networking fundamentals and basic troubleshooting.

  • Proficiency in using device management tools and software.

  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.

  • Ability to perform hardware diagnostics and repairs.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain any necessary security clearances.

  • Analytical – ability to analyse complex data and identify behavioural and transactional patterns indicative of fraudulent activities.

  • Problem-Solving – ability to identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.

  • Systematic and methodical – desire to develop and execute structured processes for fraud detection, investigation, and prevention.

  • Agile – ability to break down tasks into smaller, manageable parts and adjusting course as needed based on stakeholder feedback and changing environments.
