Desktop Support Engineer

About the Role

Role Purpose:

The main purpose of the job as Desktop Support Engineer at Ukheshe / EFTCorp, is to oversee a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of Ukheshe / EFTCorp IT systems and providing technical assistance to all employees. The Desktop Support Engineer is responsible for diagnosing and resolving desktop software and hardware issues, managing user accounts and permissions in Microsoft 365, and supporting various office productivity tools. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a customer-centric approach.


Technical Support:

To Provide first and second level technical support to end users for desktop hardware, software, and peripherals.


  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Teams.

  • Assist with the se

    tup and configuration of new desktops, laptops, and mobile devices for employees.


Desktop/IT System Monitoring and Maintenance:

  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop operating systems (Windows), software applications, and updates.

  • Monitor IT systems and proactively identify potential issues or areas for improvement.


Network connectivity Support:

  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues, both wired and wireless, and collaborate with network engineers as needed to resolve complex problems.



Policy and / or Procedure Drafting & Implementation:

  • Collaborate with IT team members to develop and implement desktop support procedures, documentation, and best practices.


IT Project Contribution:

  • Participate in IT projects, such as system upgrades, migrations, and deployments, as assigned.

User Training:

  • Conduct user training sessions and create user guides to promote self-service and enhance user productivity.


Time-Sheet Management:

  • Time tracking in Jira (Tempo) completed weekly, accurate project code allocation with a min average of 8 hours per workday.


Business Risk Management:

  • Compliance with company policies and procedures.

  • Complete all periodic mandatory policy and security training in accordance with Ukheshe’s guidelines.

  • Risk mindset applied and business risks actively raised to direct manager.



Way of Work:


  • Use of proper punctuation, UK English grammar and spelling.

  • Ensure all documents, correspondence etc. are formatted correctly, are neat and accurate.

  • All activities are completed with due care and align with accuracy and quality standards.

  • Obtain necessary approvals for legal activities aligned with process.

  • Identify and / or confirm relevant timeframes / deadlines applicable to the task at hand.

The nature of this role may require the individual to provide services across different entities within the EFT Corporation Group as and when required. This could involve temporary assignments, projects, or responsibilities that extend beyond the specific entity to which the individual is initially assigned. The willingness to adapt and contribute to the broader objectives of the group is essential for success in this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.

  • Proven experience providing desktop support in a corporate environment, supporting at least 100 users.

  • Solid understanding of Microsoft 365 services, including Azure Active Directory (Entra), Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Teams.

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting desktop hardware, software, and network connectivity issues.

  • Familiarity with desktop management tools, such as Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM) or similar.

  • Problem solving – find solutions when emotions are involved.
